Modern Biophysical Chemistry PDF Download. Download free ebook of Modern Biophysical Chemistry in PDF format or read online by Peter Jomo Walla 9783527683550 Published on 2015-09-10 by John Wiley & Sons

This updated and up-to-date version of the first edition continues with the really interesting stuff to spice up a standard biophysics and biophysical chemistry course. All relevant methods used in current cutting edge research including such recent developments as super-resolution microscopy and next-generation DNA sequencing techniques, as well as industrial applications, are explained. The text has been developed from a graduate course taught by the author for several years, and by presenting a mix of basic theory and real-life examples, he closes the gap between theory and experiment. The first part, on basic biophysical chemistry, surveys fundamental and spectroscopic techniques as well as biomolecular properties that represent the modern standard and are also the basis for the more sophisticated technologies discussed later in the book. The second part covers the latest bioanalytical techniques such as the mentioned super-resolution and next generation sequencing methods, confocal fluorescence microscopy, light sheet microscopy, two-photon microscopy and ultrafast spectroscopy, single molecule optical, electrical and force measurements, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, optical tweezers, quantum dots and DNA origami techniques. Both the text and illustrations have been prepared in a clear and accessible style, with extended and updated exercises (and their solutions) accompanying each chapter. Readers with a basic understanding of biochemistry and/or biophysics will quickly gain an overview of cutting edge technology for the biophysical analysis of proteins, nucleic acids and other biomolecules and their interactions. Equally, any student contemplating a career in the chemical, pharmaceutical or bio-industry will greatly benefit from the technological knowledge presented. Questions of differing complexity testing the reader's understanding can be found at the end of each chapter with clearly described solutions available on the Wiley-VCH textbook homepage under: www.wiley-vch.de/textbooks

&Quot;Bioinformatics: Databases and Algorithms has two features that distinguish it from others in this genre. First, it seeks to explain some of the basic algorithms in bioinformatics to readers who have little exposure to computer science and mathematics. Second, it deals with structural bioinformatics in greater depth than most other books. The emphasis of this book is on algorithms, though databases have not been entirely neglected, and they have a whole chapter to themselves. Also much attention is given to structural bioinformatics.|--BOOK JACKET.

The Beauty of Protein Structures and the Mathematics behind Structural Bioinformatics Providing the framework for a one-semester undergraduate course, Structural Bioinformatics: An Algorithmic Approach shows how to apply key algorithms to solve problems related to macromolecular structure. Helps Students Go Further in Their Study of Structural Biology Following some introductory material in the first few chapters, the text solves the longest common subsequence problem using dynamic programming and explains the science models for the Nussinov and MFOLD algorithms. It then reviews sequence alignment, along with the basic mathematical calculations needed for measuring the geometric properties of macromolecules. After looking at how coordinate transformations facilitate the translation and rotation of molecules in a 3D space, the author introduces structural comparison techniques, superposition algorithms, and algorithms that compare relationships within a protein. The final chapter explores how regression and classification are becoming more useful in protein analysis and drug design. At the Crossroads of Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science Connecting biology, mathematics, and computer science, this practical text presents various bioinformatics topics and problems within a scientific methodology that emphasizes nature (the source of empirical observations), science (the mathematical modeling of the natural process), and computation (the science of calculating predictions and mathematical objects based on mathematical models).

Data-Centric Biology PDF Download. Download free ebook of Data-Centric Biology in PDF format or read online by Sabina Leonelli 9780226416502 Published on 2016-11-18 by University of Chicago Press

In recent decades, there has been a major shift in the way researchers process and understand scientific data. Digital access to data has revolutionized ways of doing science in the biological and biomedical fields, leading to a data-intensive approach to research that uses innovative methods to produce, store, distribute, and interpret huge amounts of data. In Data-Centric Biology, Sabina Leonelli probes the implications of these advancements and confronts the questions they pose. Are we witnessing the rise of an entirely new scientific epistemology? If so, how does that alter the way we study and understand life—including ourselves? Leonelli is the first scholar to use a study of contemporary data-intensive science to provide a philosophical analysis of the epistemology of data. In analyzing the rise, internal dynamics, and potential impact of data-centric biology, she draws on scholarship across diverse fields of science and the humanities—as well as her own original empirical material—to pinpoint the conditions under which digitally available data can further our understanding of life. Bridging the divide between historians, sociologists, and philosophers of science, Data-Centric Biology offers a nuanced account of an issue that is of fundamental importance to our understanding of contemporary scientific practices.

Bioinformatics PDF Download. Download free ebook of Bioinformatics in PDF format or read online by Frédéric Dardel,François Képès 9780470020029 Published on 2007-01-11 by John Wiley & Sons

This book is an excellent introductory text describing the use of bioinformatics to analyze genomic and post-genomic data. It has been translated from the original popular French edition, which was based on a course taught at the well-respected École Polytechnique in Palaiseau. This edition has been fully revised and updated by the authors. After a brief introduction to gene structure and sequence determination, it describes the techniques used to identify genes, their protein-coding sequences and regulatory regions. The book discusses the methodology of comparative genomics, using information from different organisms to deduce information about unknown sequences. There is a comprehensive chapter on structure prediction, covering both RNA and protein. Finally, the book describes the complex networks of RNA and protein that exist within the cell and their interactions, ending with a discussion of the simulation approaches that can be used to model these networks. Praise from the reviews: “In context of the new developments the genomic era has brought, Bioinformatics: Genomics and Post-Genomics becomes a fundamental and indispensable resource for undergraduate and early graduate students...insightfully authored...will immensely help students...in establishing important foundations while shaping their careers.” NEWSLETTER, BRITISH SOCIETY OF CELL BIOLOGY

Life is the most extraordinary phenomenon in the known universe; but how does it work? It is remarkable that in this age of cloning and even synthetic biology, nobody has ever made anything living entirely out of dead material. Life remains the only way to make life. Are we missing a vital ingredient in its creation? Like Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene, which provided a new perspective on evolution by shifting the focus of natural selection from organisms to genes, Life On The Edge alters our understanding of life from cells or biomolecules to the fundamental particles that drive life's dynamics. From this new perspective, life makes more sense as its missing ingredient is revealed to be quantum mechanics and the strange phenomena that lie at the heart of this most mysterious of sciences. -- Provided by publisher.
